Description
West Coast Rap has become the dominant form of music in
America. It has grown from the mean streets of Compton,
South Central, and Long Beach to the main streets of middle
America. "Tha Westside" details West Coast Rap's
notorious past, present, and future, through never-before-seen
footage and interviews with the West Coast's most influential
music pioneers. With rare looks into the lives of Tupac
and Snoop Dogg, leaders of the West Coast Rap scene, this
is an important chronicle in the history of music.

Tha Westside
"Tha westside" was a good attempt at making
a documentary of the westcoast rap game. As a whole the
film is sub par, but it does have it's highlights. Any
fan of Tupac will not be dissapointed, as it shows 5 to
7 minutes of never before seen footage of pac rapping
on home video. The film also has indepth interviews that
give you information on what it was like to be in the
cali rap game at that time. This film is very similar
to the "welcome to death row" dvd, cutting back
and forth, from interviews of people who were there, and
rare footage.
Tupac
Shakur: VS
Reviewer: A viewer from LA, CA
After seeing a screener copy of the film I do believe
that Tupac Vs. is a highly organized document of an icon,
a philosopher, and more importantly of a man. A film which
for the first time estimates the value of Tupac Shakur.
It is not a door into the history of contemporary black
culture, it is history itself. Tupac Vs. is the first
and only film acknowledging the authority of Tupac's words.
A film defining the essence of his life in such an original
way - a cognitive motion, ending in passion since there
is no way to crack it. Because who can stop the sun seized
by a passion for returning? Compared to this film most
of the other ones about Tupac Shakur are like a dried-up
lake: with neither depth nor moisture. Bravo to the filmmakers.
Tupac
Shakur - Before I Wake
Tupac Shakur was one of hip-hops most notorious
and controversial icons. His untimely death at the age
of 25 sent a shock wave through the music world. Now the
true events of his final tumultuous year, including his
assassination, are documented on film by the man who witnessed
them. Frank Alexander, Tupacs personal bodyguard,
presents Tupac Shakur: Before I Wake from Xenon Pictures.
This film details Tupacs encounters with the law;
an examination of the chaotic events surrounding his death,
including the reaction from Death Row Records president
"Suge" Knight; an interview with homicide detective
Brent Becker of the LVPD; commentary from Rev. Jesse Jackson,
Eric "Eazy-E" Wright and Russell Simmons. Also
included are a foreword and interview with Prof. Michael
Eric Dyson (author of Holla If You Hear Me: Why Tupac
Shakur Matters), original interviews with Tupac himself,
and footage of the recording sessions for the posthumous
album Until the End of Time. This is Tupac up close and
personal as you have never seen him before
and may
never see him again.
Welcome
to Death Row
Welcome to Death Row tells the unauthorized history
of the most notorious rap label ever. And what a story
it is--the rise and fall of Death Row and its power-hungry
CEO, Marion "Suge" Knight, makes The Godfather
look like a bedtime story. The film traces the entire
controversial history of the label and the impact it had
on not only the music industry but American culture. The
film also details the relationship between Death Row and
its biggest star, Tupac Shakur, and the effect that Shakur's
sudden death in a 1996 drive-by shooting had on the label's
fortunes (a story told in greater depth in Thug Immortal).
Although none of the major players in this drama are represented
on tape, an alarming number of believable behind-the-scenes
sources makes this a documentary that goes a long way
toward revealing the intimate connection between the music
industry and organized crime, and the desire for power
and glory that drives them both. --Chris Campion, Amazon.co.uk
